A little about our photographer, Chris...
Q. How did you get into photography?
A. I've always loved the camera and the power it has to evoke emotions in you.  I didn't really get into still pictures until later on in life, however, my dad used to have an old 8mm movie camera that I loved!  It's fun looking back on those movies now :)

Q. Do you have a favorite picture, or one that you quickly recall that evokes those emotions?
A. Yes, I have two (sadness and happiness):

The first is a Pulitzer Prize winner by Nick Ut, taken in 1972 of a young Vietnamese girl running down the street naked after being badly burned in an attack involving napalm. Being a father, I can't begin to imagine any of my children having to experience something as traumatic as this.

The second picture is one of happiness, nothing says it better than when you're with family and everyone is in the moment - this picture was taken by Chris Van Atta, our wedding photographer in North Carolina.

Q. What was your first camera?
A. A Fuji FinePix (not sure the model number)

Q. What camera, or cameras, do you shoot with now?
A. I shoot with two Canon's, a 5D (full-frame) and a 50D.  Remember, it's not the camera that takes the picture - it's the eye behind it.

Q. What made you choose Canon?
A. Ha, nothing magical.  At the time I bought my first Canon I was going off a Consumer Reports recommendation.  Now, years and many dollars invested later, I have no bias one way or the other.  I have some friends that use Nikon and the images they capture are amazing...it's all in the eye!

Q. Regarding photography, do you have any "pet peeves"?
A. Most definitely.  After someone looks at a picture and says, WOW, what kind of camera do you have?  Doh!  It's somewhat of a backwards insult to a photographer, it's like saying the writer's pen creates a novel.

Q. Do you have a favorite quote?
A. Not a favorite quote, but a memorable response from Christopher Reeve when asked "If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?"  His answer; "Welcome home".
